A woman shot eight times last April has filed for divorce from her husband — the man accused of shooting her.

Adina Parson, 40, is seeking a divorce from Michael Parson, 43, on the grounds of “cruel treatment,” according to documents filed in Fulton County Superior Court and obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Michael Parson allegedly shot his wife April 20, 2012, outside of the couple’s Sandy Springs apartment, leaving her critically injured. Michael Parson was arrested two weeks after the shooting in Texas, where investigators believe he fled to avoid being captured. He has remained in the Fulton County jail since his arrest and is awaiting trial.

The Parsons were married on May 16, 2009, and friends and family members have previously said they believed the couple was happy. But following his arrest, court documents revealed that Michael Parson was leading a double life at the time of the shooting, which included being engaged to another woman.

Adina Parson spent several weeks at Grady Memorial Hospital before moving to the Shepherd Center. She has been released from Shepherd and continues to recover, her family has said. Adina Parson was attorney with the state’s Department of Public Health prior to the shooting.

Adina Parson is asking the court to grant a restraining order against Michael Parson if he is released from jail.

“The plaintiff fears that defendant will continue to try and cause plaintiff further irrevocable harm, injury or even death,” the divorce petition states.
