Wasn’t the weather nice Tuesday? It’s not going to last.
A strong cold front is expected to move into the metro area Wednesday afternoon, bringing showers and storms, according to Glenn Burns, chief meteorologist for Channel 2 Action News. Isolated, severe storms are possible, with the potential for damaging winds, he said.
“We need everyone to be weather-aware,” Burns said. “We’ve got the best radar on the planet to track these storms.”
There is a 100 percent chance for rain, with totals reaching 1 to 2 inches in northern counties, Burns said. A flood watch has been issued for far north Georgia counties and a high wind warning for the higher elevations of the north Georgia mountains, he said.
While the morning commute is expected to be mostly dry, the afternoon drive will be a different story, Burns said. By 3 p.m., rain should be falling across the metro area before continuing east across the state.
By 8 p.m. Wednesday, the rain should be gone. Then, colder air sticks around, Burns said.
High temperatures for the rest of the work week will reach the low 50s, dipping into the 30s at night. The forecast includes plenty of sunshine through the weekend.
