Scattered storms rolled through the metro Atlanta area Wednesday afternoon, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to some areas. But the rain didn’t linger, and hot weather is on the way.
Messy afternoon: Storms were to blame for downed trees and traffic light outages in Cobb County. A tree landed on a car near Marietta, temporarily trapping the driver inside, according to the fire department. Cobb was among several metro counties under a severe thunderstorm warning. Other counties included Clayton, Fayette, Fulton, Henry and Paulding. A tree was also reportedly down on a DeKalb home. Check ajc.com/weather for the latest forecast information.
Shew, it's hot: Thursday is going to be a hot day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. High temperatures should reach 95 degrees Thursday afternoon with mostly sunny skies, he said. Friday will again be a scorcher, with an afternoon high of 96 degrees.
Watch out middle, east Georgia: The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of middle and east Georgia, where it expects a triple-digit heat index, the Associated Press reported. The advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Yay, the weekend: Expect a slight cool-off in the metro Atlanta area, but not by much, Nitz said. Saturday's high is expected to be around 94 degrees, followed by 92 Sunday. There is a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday.
