A man was taken into custody early Sunday after allegedly shooting at an Atlanta Police officer during a car chase stemming from what authorities suspect was a carjacking.

Atlanta Police said that around 2 a.m., an APD officer stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved in a carjacking. The driver fled in the car, but later struck another car at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Fort Street.

Police did not immediately name the suspect.

After the crash, the alleged carjacker got out of the vehicle and is reported to have fired at least one shot at a police officers. The officer fired one shot in return. Neither the suspect nor the officer was struck.

The suspected carjacker, who was with other passengers, attempted to flee, but was captured and taken into custody. Police did not provide details on the other passengers.
