An Atlanta police officer has been accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old girl.
The officer, whose name was not released, has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation, according to Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police.
The allegations were reported to supervisors in the APD Zone 1 precinct, located west of downtown, on Sunday, Lyon said. If investigators determine any criminal wrongdoing, those findings will be forwarded to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, police said.
“The allegations are being taken seriously and if determined to be true, disciplinary action will be taken against the officer,” Lyon said in an emailed statement.
The APD declined further comment on the matter, pending the outcome of the investigation.
