A swim meet for athletes 50 and older is coming to Clayton County on Friday.

The 2021 Georgia Golden Olympics swim events will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at the Steve Lundquist Aquatic Center in Jonesboro. It is the first time a Georgia Golden Olympics event is being held in Clayton County.

“We are extremely excited that the Georgia Golden Olympics Swim Meet will be held at the Aquatics Center this year,” Clayton County Senior Services Director Tori Strawter-Tanks said. “Our Parks and Recreation Department has done a wonderful job collaborating with us and Georgia Golden Olympics to make this happen.”

The GGO is a statewide event for adults that provides an opportunity for people 50 and older to participate in amateur sports competition, learn new leisure skills and enjoy physical activity. Friday’s meet is a qualifying event for the National Senior Games Association’s national competition.
