Alan Jones, Fayetteville’s fire chief for the last 24 years, has been named the Fayette County city’s new assistant city manager.
The move will allow Jones, who has been pulling double duty since 2014 as both assistant city manager and fire chief, to focus on one job. He has been with the Fayetteville Fire Department for more than 33 years.
Linda Black, the Fayetteville Fire Department’s deputy chief, will step in as interim leader. A 38-year fire service veteran, Black joined the Henry County Fire Department in 1983 as an emergency medical technician and became a firefighter/paramedic with Henry Fire in 1987. She joined the Fayetteville Fire Department as its Fire Safety Educator in April 1996 and was promoted to deputy Chief in 1997.
