Parents have been celebrating their children’s admission to college with dance for generations. Angelina Jolie would not be outdone.

On Sunday, the Academy Award-winning actress officially revealed on Instagram that her 17-year-old daughter, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, would be attending Spelman College in downtown Atlanta this fall.

Jolie posted a photo of Zahara with a group of classmates, at what appears to be a Spelman event.

“Zahara with her Spelman sisters! Congratulations to all new students starting this year,” Jolie wrote on her Instagram post. “A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl. #spelman #spelmancollege #spelmansisters #HBCU.”

The viral shoutout has already gotten nearly a quarter-million likes celebrating one of Spelman’s newest freshmen and a very proud mother.

Later, a video posted by the popular HBCU site Watch the Yard, appeared on TikTok showing Jolie doing the Electric Slide to Cameo’s “Candy,” with Spelman parents before getting a high five from one of them.

“Angelina Jolie learning the Electric Slide from Spelman and Morehouse alumni in Los Angeles,” the voice on the post, which has gotten more than 25,000 likes, announced.

Zahara is one of three children that Jolie and her ex-husband, Oscar-winner Brad Pitt have adopted. The other two adopted boys are from Cambodia and Vietnam and attend college in South Korea, as Jolie - who also has three biological children - has often spoken out about how she wants all of her children to understand their cultures.

Zahara and her freshman classmates will not be the only new faces at Spelman this fall.

The 141-year-old all-women’s school is entering a new era with the appointment of Helene Gayle, the global public health expert, and former chief executive of CARE USA, as Spelman College’s 11th president.

Academically, Gayle said she wants to enhance Spelman’s recent efforts to provide more courses and resources for students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

That should keep Jolie dancing.
