A Megabus headed to Atlanta from Chicago crashed early Monday morning in Indiana, leaving 19 people injured.
Indiana State Police said the wreck happened around 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 65 southbound in central Indiana, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Two cars and a semi-truck were also involved, police told the paper.
The 19 bus passengers were taken to local hospitals but their injuries were not called life threatening.
The Megabus ran into the back of the semi-truck, which was stopped on I-65, trooper John Perrine said, because of construction. The Megabus didn’t stop quickly enough and hit the truck, pushing it into the two passenger vehicles.
One Megabus passenger told reporters on the scene: “We were braking and we didn’t brake fast enough. We tried to swerve off, but she didn’t swerve fast enough I guess, which is actually good because the front right of our bus hit the back left of the semi, and I think that kept us from flipping.”
There were 63 passengers aboard, according to the story in the Tribune, but a Megabus spokesman said the company did not release that number.
The accident is being investigated.
