Residents of a Gwinnett County apartment building were evacuated briefly early Saturday after a predawn fire broke out at the Highland Valley complex in Norcross.
Investigators believe the 3 a.m. blaze was set intentionally because the fire was not confined to one area, Gwinnett fire Lt. Colin S. Rhoden said.
Rhoden said a caller to the 911 dispatch center spotted the fire after arriving home sometime around 3:20 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the two-story wood frame building in flames. The fire was quickly brought under control and two thorough searches were completed, Rhoden said.
No one was injured in the blaze.
There was fire damage reported to two rooms in the apartment where the fire started. No one was at home at the time in that apartment. Two adults from an adjacent unit were displaced due to smoke damage, Rhoden said.
Anyone with information about the blaze should call the Gwinnett Fire Arson and Explosives Investigation Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
Georgia Arson Control offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.
