Police have arrested a suspect in the accidental shooting of a 2-year-old girl earlier this week in Evans, Ga.

Andre Armon Green, 24, turned himself into the Columbia County sheriff’s department after Monday’s shooting, in which an 8-year-old boy shot his younger sister.

The shooting happened while three children were watching TV, according to WRDW.  The 8-year-old boy found a gun in their home and began playing with it, accidentally shooting the girl in the abdomen.

The girl was rushed to a local hospital.

Columbia County deputies were working to identify a person who allegedly brought the weapon into the home and left before police arrived.

On Tuesday, a witness told police the gun belonged to Green, his cousin. While the witness was still meeting with police, Green showed him and told deputies the gun belonged to him.

Green led police to an area where he said he threw the gun. A K-9 unit found the gun, which was a compact 9mm Ruger, and a magazine.

Green has been charged with tampering with evidence and reckless conduct and has posted a $6,200 bond, according to police.
