A man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of two people whose bodies were found at a residence in Blairsville on Monday.

Two arrest warrants for murder have been obtained for Cody Lee Vestal, 35, the GBI said Tuesday.

The bodies of the two people, whose names have not been released pending notification of family, were found by Union County sheriff’s personnel at a property on Highway 325. Authorities said they appeared to have been shot.

The sheriff’s department responded after receiving a call from Dayton, Tenn., police. They had been contacted by the Rhea Medical Center in Dayton, where Vestal had been admitted, the GBI said.

Dayton police determined that Vestal had been driving a vehicle registered to the address where the bodies were found, and they discovered a firearm inside the vehicle.

Vestal was transferred to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, placed under arrest, and is now being guarded.

The bodies of the two victims were transported to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta, where autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.
