East Point police are awaiting a toxicology report in the drowning of a 20-year-old man before they can determine if it was an accident or a homicide, according to a detective over the case.

Henry Lee was discovered just before 9 p.m. Saturday at the bottom of a Holiday Inn swimming pool by friends celebrating Black Gay Pride, according to a report. He died early Tuesday at Atlanta Medical Center — South, Capt. Russell Popham, who heads the criminal investigations unit at East Point PD, said Friday.

A memorial page has been set up on Facebook and posters have written that they suspect Lee, known as Amar’e to his friends, drowned because his drink might have been spiked. The question whether he drowned because he was tall and the water wasn’t too deep for him.

“We shall seek justice. It’s just not making sense,” one person wrote on the Facebook page created as a memorial to Lee.

While the tests on Lee’s blood are pending, the medical examiners has classified his cause of death “undetermined.”

“It’s being investigated,” Popham said.

The police captain said, however, that detectives are not yet calling Lee’s death suspicious.

“The cause of death is still undetermined,” Popham said.

He said investigators were aware of questions about his death that are being discussed on the internet but they needed toxicology results before they can decide if there was a crime.
