Alabama high school seniors get their graduation ceremony despite coronavirus

Nicholas Johnson majored in operations research and financial engineering at the Ivy League School. A virtual commencement is planned for May 31, where Johnson will be honored alongside salutatorian Grace Sommers.

Graduating seniors at an Alabama high school will get their time to shine Monday night despite the coronavirus.

Central High School students in Phenix City will begin walking across the stage each night this week, according to WTVM, all the while practicing social distancing.

Starting Monday and lasting through Friday, the Red Devils will hold commencement ceremonies at Garrett-Harrison Stadium. The ceremonies are from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Each senior will be allowed to have four guests join them at the ceremony. Each family of four will be seated 6 feet away from another family of four.

The ceremonies are not open to the public.
