An Alabama congressman has deleted his Twitter account after his Twitter posts trivializing the U.S. Capitol siege led to his account suspension last week.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, R-Alabama, posted some comments on his now-deleted page regarding the siege that left five people dead and widespread damage to the U.S. Capitol. In the post, Moore claimed a Black officer was responsible for fatally shooting rioter Ashli Babbitt during the siege. He also made disparaging comments about the validity of the charges faced by those who stormed the Capitol, leaving dozens of politicians, journalists and staff members paralyzed for hours Jan. 6.

“[W]e have more arrests for stealing a podium on Jan. 6th than we do for stealing an election on November 3rd‚” Moore said in one tweet, referring to the arrest of Adam Johnson, who was arrested after being photographed carrying Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-California) lectern out of the Capitol on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old’s comments resulted in an account suspension and later the congressman opting to deactivate his own account, according to AL.com. His chief of staff told the publication the lawmaker deactivated his own account after the suspension “because of the censorship of conservative voices he saw happening.”

Longtime Capitol Hill radio reporter Jamie Dupree had pointed out and took screengrabs of the tweets prior to the account deactivation Sunday.

Though Moore has not publicly commented on the account deletion, his chief of staff Shana Teehan issued a statement to news station WSFA on Sunday.

“Lawlessness is not the answer to our nation’s problems, and every person who acts unlawfully is responsible for their own actions and should be held accountable to the full extent of the law, whether that’s Black Lives Matter, Antifa or Wednesday’s rioters,” Moore said in the statement.

Moore, who was elected to represent Alabama’s 91st District in November, has been involved with politics since 2010. The Auburn graduate owns a waste hauling company. His official Congress account is still active on Twitter.
