A woman survived being trapped underneath a dump truck Monday afternoon after a crash in DeKalb County, officials said.

The rollover wreck happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Rogers Lake Road and South Deshon Road in Lithonia, DeKalb fire spokesman Capt. Jaeson Daniels said. When crews arrived on scene, a four-door sedan was flipped upside down in a ditch and the dump truck was directly on top of it, he said.

The truck driver had “minor to no injuries” and was walking around the scene, while the woman remained trapped inside her car, Daniels said. After she was removed, she was flown to a hospital. She was speaking to crews and appeared to be stable, Daniels added.

“She’s lucky to be alive ... she was in a perfect spot where she wasn’t crushed by the truck,” said Daniels, who explained that the truck was on top of the front end of the car.

The crash was investigated by DeKalb police and the truck driver was cited for failure to maintain lane.
