In two days, DeKalb County police arrested two 19-year-olds in connection with separate shootings that left a woman and a man dead in September, authorities said.
In the most recent shooting, which took place Sept. 27, Demetrius Leshawn Baker of Stonecrest was arrested Friday after authorities found him hiding in a crawl space at an Atlanta residence, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said.
Baker is accused of shooting 19-year-old Cashe Regia Lah’Jay Green Hudson, a native of Springfield, Mass., in the head on Friendly Hills Drive in Decatur, Williams said.
Hudson’s father said on her obituary that he will forever remember her “joyful, courageous, go-getter spirit,” while her mother said she would remember Hudson’s “unique laugh and big, bright smile.” Hudson is survived by her parents, five siblings, her great-grandfather, three grandparents, and numerous uncles and aunts. A funeral was held Tuesday in Springfield.

In a separate shooting that happened just over a week before, Jacquez LaJuan Freeman of Stone Mountain was arrested after surrendering to authorities at the DeKalb County Jail on Thursday, Williams said. Freeman is accused of shooting 29-year-old Justin Johnson multiple times on Williamsburg Drive in Decatur on Sept. 18, Williams said.
Johnson is a native of Medina, New York, and is survived by his parents, three children, three grandparents, six siblings and three cousins. A funeral was held in early October in Medina.
Freeman has been charged with murder and is being held without bond.
