Two people were killed in Macon overnight Thursday after a car crossed a median and crashed into a tractor-trailer, police said.

The accident happened about 12:30 a.m. at Broadway and Houston Road, according to 13WMAZ, which cited a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The deceased have not been identified.

The car of the victims was headed south on Broadway when the driver apparently lost control, crossed over a grass median and plowed into a Freightliner that was stopped at a red light on Houston Road, WMAZ reported.

The car burst into flames, and the driver and passenger were unable to escape, according to the station.

Both were later pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the impact of the crash pushed the semi-truck into a Chevy Impala that was sitting beside it in the northbound lanes.

The driver of the second car was identified only as a 54-year-old man, who was injured and taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition, WMAZ reported.

The 57-year-old tractor-trailer driver from Sumter, South Carolina, was also not identified by name in reports. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and released, according to WMAZ.
