Newton County deputies have charged a 17-year-old in the fatal shooting of another teenager last month at a home near Covington.

Amorieyan Weaver was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault, murder, malice murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of certain crimes, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday afternoon in a news release.

Weaver is charged in the death of 19-year-old Quindadarius Russell, whose body was discovered Oct. 19 at a home off Spring Road. Deputies responded to the house about 1:20 a.m. and found Russell with a gunshot wound, AJC.com previously reported.

Investigators have not said what prompted the shooting or how they linked Weaver to the crime. The 17-year-old is being held without bond at the Newton County Jail.
