17-year-old charged in fatal shooting of Covington teen

A 17-year-old faces a murder charge in the fatal shooting of another teen last month at a home near Covington, authorities said.

Newton County deputies have charged a 17-year-old in the fatal shooting of another teenager last month at a home near Covington.

Amorieyan Weaver was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault, murder, malice murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of certain crimes, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday afternoon in a news release.

Weaver is charged in the death of 19-year-old Quindadarius Russell, whose body was discovered Oct. 19 at a home off Spring Road. Deputies responded to the house about 1:20 a.m. and found Russell with a gunshot wound, AJC.com previously reported.

Tips sought in fatal shooting of Covington teen

Investigators have not said what prompted the shooting or how they linked Weaver to the crime. The 17-year-old is being held without bond at the Newton County Jail.
