One person was flown to an Atlanta hospital with serious injuries after a wreck on I-85 in Meriwether County that affected traffic for hours Monday morning.

The interstate reopened in the early afternoon after being closed in both directions to investigate the injury wreck, Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Franka Young said.

According to the GSP’s initial investigation, the driver of a Chrysler 300 rear-ended a tractor-trailer about 7:45 a.m. on I-85 North between LaGrange and Newnan. The Chrysler spun into the left lane, where it was hit by a second tractor-trailer. The car flipped into the median and came to an “uncontrolled stop,” the incident report said.

The Chrysler’s passenger suffered serious injuries, Young said.

The sedan and both tractor-trailers were disabled, snarling traffic throughout the morning. Troopers remained on the scene until at least 1 p.m. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation, Young said.
