One man is dead and another is behind bars after a domestic dispute led to gunfire Thursday afternoon in a southwest Atlanta neighborhood, authorities said.

Atlanta police responded to a shooting at a home in the 3100 block of Imperial Circle about 4 p.m. When they arrived, a man was found with a gunshot wound.

First responders performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 28-year-old Dominique Sanders.

Another man was detained shortly after the shooting, which investigators said stemmed from a domestic dispute. Within two hours, investigators had charged 34-year-old Quentavious Hambrick with murder in Sanders’ death. It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the fight or if the two men lived together. Hambrick remained at the Fulton County Jail on Friday without bond.

The shooting comes just a day after Atlanta police made another announcement regarding the increase in gun violence in 2021. Sanders’ death is the department’s 110th homicide case, and he is among the more than 600 people shot in Atlanta this year.

“We are perplexed at how many people are willing to throw away their lives, abandon their families, or destroy another person’s life over an argument, disagreement or petty violation,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.
