One person died Saturday afternoon after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-285 eastbound in Sandy Springs, police said.

The crash happened along the interstate near the exit to Ga. 400 after a driver attempted to merge into the exit, an incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows. Police said Ashley Adams, 35, of Lithonia, crossed the gore while trying to get on Ga. 400 and struck another car.

Adams lost control of her vehicle and swerved into two other lanes, the report states. That’s when a tractor-trailer, whose driver attempted to brake and move to the left lane to avoid the crash, struck Adams’ vehicle, police said.

Adams was killed in the impact, according to police. No charges have been filed against the other drivers.

Eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down about 1 p.m. as police worked the crash. All lanes began reopening about 6:30 p.m.
