Violations on glove use resulted in a failing inspection score for a Guatemalan restaurant in Norcross.

The Gwinnett County inspector said employees at Restaurante Guatemalteco Fuente De Bendicion were using bare hands to handle chips, chicken and tortillas during a routine inspection on Nov. 9.

Single-use gloves, or some dispensing equipment or tissue, are needed when handling ready-to-eat foods. The chips were discarded, and the chicken and tortilla reheated to above 145 degrees.

In another violation, an employee rinsed their gloves at the sink, then handled foods without changing the gloves. Single-use gloves should be used for one task, then discarded.

The inspector said foods at the restaurant were holding above safe temperatures in various areas. As a result, some were thrown away.

Foods in the walk-in cooler prepared a few days before had no discard dates or labels. Prepared foods are good for up to seven days, then must be discarded.

Raw chicken and squash were thawing at room temperature, a food safety violation. The chicken was cooked, and the squash returned to the cooler.

A follow-up inspection will occur within ten days.

Restaurante Guatemalteco, 5510 Spalding Drive, Norcross, scored 66/U on the inspection.
