A roach infestation at Bourbon Street Café in Lithonia led to a failing restaurant score.

The restaurant’s food permit is suspended until a pest control service treats the facility. Despite an extermination last month, approximately 30 to 40 roaches, in various life stages, scattered during the Oct. 25 inspection.

The restaurant is inside The Mall at Stonecrest, 2929 Turner Hill Road. It had a previous score of 84/B but scored a 66/U on this routine inspection.

The Clayton County inspector said no one at the restaurant was in charge of food safety. When walking into the facility, two women and a small child were spotted eating popsicles at the kitchen prep table. In addition, foods were incorrectly stored in the cooler, and raw eggs were not stored at a safe temperature.

Cooked foods were not being cooled down correctly and risked contamination. And other hot foods were not being held at safe temperatures.

In addition to having pest control, Bourbon Street Cafe will also need to have a certified food safety manager onsite within the next 30 days.
