In a recent letter to residents, Roswell Mayor Lori Henry shared the Roswell Police Department’s crime comparison looking at number of crimes by category for 2018 through 2020.
Roswell police report an overall 15% reduction in crime during 2020 with significant decreases in rape/sexual assault (down 19%), burglary (down 26%), and larceny and property crime (both down 17%). The city reported only one homicide in 2020, down from six in 2019.
The city also reports a 19% increase in aggravated assault, 8% increase in robbery and 4% increase in violent crime.
The report highlights the importance of training for officers, and notes that despite the challenges of Covid-19 Roswell police officers completed 24,551 hours of GA POST approved training. Officers completed 1,165 hours of de-escalation, use of force and community policing training in 2020, an average of 178 hours of training per officer.
