The Roswell City Council recently approved an agreement with the Roswell Historical Society outlining the various roles and obligations between the city and the historical society.

Founded in 1971, the Roswell Historical Society has amassed considerable amounts of historically significant materials and artifacts and has created numerous historic projects and programs.

Under the agreement, the historical society will maintain its nonprofit 501(c)(3) status. They will continue to record and preserve historically significant materials and artifacts relevant to Roswell and provide public access to archives, education, information, and events. The RHS will also provide information as needed to the city and coordinate with the city for display of historical items related to historic properties.

The city will provide the Roswell Historical Society exclusive use of the upstairs portion of the Roswell Cultural Arts Center for a library and archives facility. Roswell will provide funds to RHS within the annual budget as well as security, utilities, an air-conditioning and dehumidification system, and maintenance of the facility.

Roswell will also maintain insurance to cover the facility and its contents, recognizing the historic value of the items.

Roswell and RHS agree that title to properties loaned and placed in the facility will remain with the owner, unless the owner transfers title or ownership, in writing, to the city or RHS. Neither Roswell nor RHS will be liable for any loss of a loaned item over and above the applicable insurance coverage.
