The Milton City Council recently approved moving forward with pre-construction and right of way acquisition services for the design of the Birmingham Road Middle Bridge Replacement Project. This bridge crosses over tributary #8 of Chicken Creek just past the intersection with Manor Trace.

This next step will secure a survey, updated design files, construction limits and concept layout as well as preliminary right of way plans to begin acquisition services.

The existing bridge and roadway are expected to flood during a 100-year storm event. The main cause for this is the elevation at King Lake causing a tailwater which is above the road elevation. The model shows the lake ‘backing up” over the roadway.

Engineers have recommended replacing the existing bridge and raising the existing road by 6 feet at the deepest section to prevent flooding of the roadway during major storm events. Raising Birmingham Road will also require raising Manor Trace due to its proximity to the intersection.
