Very few employers are without staffing challenges. In Alpharetta, the city’s curbside residential waste service provider, Republic Services, is dealing with employees forced to isolate or quarantine due to having or being directly exposed to COVID-19. For the short-term, the company is shifting route personnel or bringing in personnel from other accounts/communities in response.

For customers, this means Republic is prioritizing service in order of importance:

1. Trash and garbage

2. Standard recycling

3. Glass recycling

According to the city, “To ensure that trash/garbage and standard recycling service is being completed on assigned days, Republic has had to move employees from glass recycling routes, which are currently running one to two weeks behind schedules, as a result.”

Trash/garbage and standard recycling routes are also being temporarily extended later into the day/evening to meet the needs of customers.

The city is asking for customer patience while Republic Services works to improve scheduling and hire additional workers.
