The Hampton City Council voted at its Sept. 14 regular meeting to approve a rezoning of 21 acres to mixed use for a combination of commercial and townhome development. The site in question is on the east side of Bear Creek Boulevard. The council had previously requested that the applicant conduct a market analysis to determine the viability of making the townhomes age-restricted. In other business, the council approved an ordinance restricting the placement of certain materials in a street, right-of-way or sidewalk where they would create an obstruction — “debris, grass and yard clippings, rubbish, irrigation water, boxes, displays, signs, poles, goods, merchandise or any other object so as to impede or endanger traffic on the streets or sidewalks,” according to a city staff report.
