The annual Christmas parade in McDonough will not be happening this year. A notice at the top of the city website’s home page states, “Due to the continued increase of COVID cases and hospitalizations, there will not be a city Christmas parade this year.” A Sept. 9 post on the Main Street office’s Facebook page cited city officials who said that the decision was made “as a result of a series of conversations and discussions about the safety of holding public events in the community.”

Among the more specific reasons mentioned locally is the fact that the event takes a few months to plan, with details such as the closing of roads through the square that are state highways requiring advance approval from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
