Oak Grove Elementary School in Peachtree City was finally able to celebrate its renovation on Sept. 29. With members of the Fayette County Board of Education (including outgoing superintendent Joseph Barrow Jr. and incoming superintendent Jonathan Patterson) as well as county staff, city leaders and parents in attendance, the school held a tour of the updated facility.

The work, which began last year, included a new gym, music room, conference rooms and restrooms, as well as an updated cafeteria and new heating and air conditioning, lighting, ceiling tiles and flooring. To keep traffic from backing up onto Crosstown Drive, the layout of the school was changed to move the main entrance to 200 Log House Road, which then required renovations to other offices and the administrative suite.

In May, construction was affected by vandalism that caused approximately $13,000 worth of damage. Three juveniles were subsequently arrested and charged.
