The city of Fayetteville has submitted a project list to the Georgia Department of Transportation to get grant money for repaving several local streets. Under the state’s Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant Program, the city is eligible to receive $208,834 if it provides at least 30% of that amount, or $62,650, in matching funds. The City Council voted unanimously at its Sept. 16 meeting to approve a resolution that includes the project priority list.

According to Chris Hindman, director of public services, the LMIG list includes patching work to be done on Johnson Avenue, Laurien Street, Miracle Lane, Julia Court, Pilgram Way, New Hope Road and Brandywine Boulevard, as well as sealcoating and restriping of Lafayette Avenue. The total cost of all those projects is estimated at $272,553. Hindman told the council that other 2021 resurfacing projects are still underway, but some have been delayed by staffing shortages related to COVID-19.
