Kim Herron will become Fayette County Public Schools’ new assistant superintendent of student achievement, effective Dec. 1. She will replace Julie Turner, who is retiring at the end of November. The appointment was approved at the Board of Education’s Nov. 8 work session and announced to the school system staff in a memo from Superintendent Jonathan Patterson.

Herron has served for the past seven years as Fayette’s director of elementary education. She began in the county as a special needs teacher and worked in all three school levels over 13 years. She was an assistant principal at Spring Hill Elementary and Kedron Elementary before becoming principal of the former Fayetteville Intermediate and Hood Avenue Primary schools. She was principal at Fayetteville Elementary before joining the administrative staff. The county is now seeking Herron’s replacement; the position has been posted at www.fcboe.org and applications will be accepted through Nov. 21.
