Fayette County Board of Education member Leonard Presberg has apologized to his colleagues and the community for social media posts he made during the board’s Aug. 23 regular meeting. Presberg, who represents District 4, received both support and criticism after posting on Facebook during the meeting to repeat statements made during the public comment period, which lasted three hours and consisted mostly of remarks by parents opposed to students being required to wear face coverings at school. Critics called the now-deleted posts unprofessional.

At the board’s Sept. 13 work session, Presberg said, “I apologize that I shifted the focus to my behavior rather than the business of the system and the good work of our staff and our students…. It will not happen again.” Presberg said he did not intend to convey the opinion that the board did not welcome public comment.
