In another called meeting held Monday, the Fayette County Board of Elections again rejected claims by former county commissioner Peter Pfeifer that challenged some voters’ eligibility. Pfeifer, who did not attend the meeting, sent the board an eight-page letter dated Dec. 28 alleging that 55 people who registered to vote in Fayette after the November election are ineligible to vote in the runoff either because they may have moved to Georgia just to vote on Jan. 5 or because they are currently registered in more than one state.
However, both county attorney Patrick Stough and interim elections director Agnes Bridges said there was no evidence that any of the voters in question violated election laws. The board found no probable cause and voted 3-0 to deny both challenges. Stough said changes to voter records when individuals move to another state are handled at the state level, and that anyone subsequently determined to have voted fraudulently would be subject to legal charges.
