Dunwoody Parks & Recreation will bring in three times as many lights as last year for this year’s Holiday Lights.

This walk-through display at Brook Run Park, 4770 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody will open from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1.

Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch will flip the switch on the lights at 6 p.m.

Opening night on Dec. 1 will include free hot cocoa and appearances by holiday characters roaming around the playground.

“We thought last year’s Holiday Lights would be a one-time celebration because of COVID. However, the event was so successful and loved by our community that we’ve decided to make it a new tradition,” Deutsch said.

This year’s display will feature 75,000 lights that will shine nightly in the park through Dec. 27.

The theme is “Hollywood Holidays” with decorations inspired by popular holiday movies.

In addition to lights, Dunwoody Parks & Recreation also will mark the season with two letter campaigns.

  • Letters to seniors: They will be sent to residents of Dunwoody’s assisted-living communities. Letters may be dropped off at the North Shallowford Annex (4770 N. Shallowford Road) or Spruill Arts Center (5339 Chamblee Dunwoody). Letters will be accepted Monday through Friday from Dec. 1 until noon on Dec. 23. Look for the festive mailboxes.
  • Letters to Santa: Children can send messages and pictures to Santa by emailing Santa.Claus@dunwoodyga.gov. Santa will respond with a personalized, mailed letter all the way from the North Pole. Include the child’s name and return mailing address in the email. Messages will be accepted from Dec. 1 until Dec. 19.
