Dunwoody residents will get to help decide how two new city parks are designed and how they look.
During the city’s Food Truck Thursday event at Brook Run Park, residents can meet with Dunwoody Parks and Recreation staff to give their thoughts on the new park properties. The city recently purchased nine acres along Vermack Road, and it plans to raze a shuttered elementary school to create a 12-acre park.
Residents can also fill out an online survey through Sept. 17 to share their input.
“There is so much potential with these properties,” Dunwoody Parks and Recreation Director Brent Walker said in a news release. “We’ll take our lead from residents as we work to find the best and most appropriate uses for both.”
Dunwoody purchased the parcels at 4809 and 4819 Vermack Road for roughly $5.7 million in April with the intent of adding to the city’s greenspace. The shuttered Austin Elementary School, located at 5435 Roberts Drive, has already undergone public input sessions, but the city is again asking for feedback. Two existing playgrounds on the Austin site have been refurbished and will be open to the public soon, the release said.
The city currently manages 13 parks and recreation facilities, including Waterford Park which opened earlier this year. The city will have more than 200 acres of park space once the two new parks are finished.
