Like many entities around the country, the city of Chamblee is experiencing staff shortages in several areas. One, in particular, waste removal is forcing the city to make changes in the collection of garbage, recycling, grass clippings and leaves. Specifically, the city will collect less yard debris due to these shortages, according to a press release.

" We will continue to collect yard debris if it is bagged or canned and this may also include grass clipping and leaves,” according to a statement from city officials.

The city will not collect any pile of yard debris that is put curbside and involves anything more than grass clippings and leaves. Piles that include logs and limbs or large piles of brush will not be collected.

Cities in Florida, Alabama and other southern states have sought federal help in clearing debris, mainly from hurricane ravaged areas. Other states are having similar manpower issues as Dunwoody.

Jacksonville, Florida (Duval County) received more than 9,000 complaints in one month about yard waste collection delays. City officials are discussing using $4 million in federal funds to help alleviate the problem.
