DeKalb County will hold its latest series of food giveaways this weekend.

The events, which are meant to help address food insecurity during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, will involve distributing a total of 4,100 boxes of produce and chicken at several local churches.

Saint Philip AME Church (240 Candler Road SE, Atlanta) will start its distribution event at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.

Five other churches will hold events starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. They are as follows:

  • Berean Christian Church, 2201 Young Road in Stone Mountain
  • Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Big Miller Grove Way in Stonecrest
  • New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road in Stonecrest
  • Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker
  • Southwest DeKalb High School, 2863 Kelley Chapel Road in Decatur

The county has held monthly food giveaways since last spring. Federal American Rescue Plan funds are being used to purchase the food that’s distributed.

In a press release, DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond said this weekend’s events will honor the memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
