During the recent Rivers Alive cleanup, more than 60 volunteers cleared 1.4 tons of debris in Chamblee.

Trash bags, masks and gloves were provided to the volunteers in mid-October at Nancy Creek.

The most common items in the waterway were plastic bottles, metal cans, bags and food wrappers - all of which can be recycled.

For more information on how to keep such items out of streams and rivers, visit the DeKalb Residential Single-stream Recycling Program page at bit.ly/3nDUeVF.

More than half of the solid waste going to the Seminole Road Landfill is residential waste that could have been recycled, according to the DeKalb County Sanitation Division.

This subscription-based service is offered to DeKalb residents at no additional cost beyond the annual sanitation service fee.

To date, more than 60% of DeKalb residential customers are subscribed to the program.
