The Kennesaw City Council has denied a rezoning request for Purpose Built Student Housing.

York Acquisitions applied for the rezoning request at 1320 Lockhart Drive on about 7 acres that still is zoned Office Institutional and Light Industrial.

The plan by York Acquisitions was to build a student housing development of 424 beds.

Kennesaw’s Planning Commission recommended approval by a 4-0 vote on Dec. 2.

On Dec. 21, the City Council voted 4-1 to deny the request, with support only by Councilmember Tracey Viars.

Denial came from Councilmembers James Eaton, Pat Ferris, Chris Henderson and David Blinkhorn.
