The new Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration Office project is moving forward with the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously approving at its Sept. 21 meeting an agreement for Latimer Construction to begin interior demolition, according to a press release.

Cherokee County purchased the former Department of Family and Children’s Services building on Lamar Haley Parkway in August for $1.575 million. The county will renovate the 14,638-square-foot facility to allow Elections and Voter Registration to better serve the community. While the renovations are taking place, Elections will continue to operate out of its warehouse in downtown Canton and the facility on Marietta Highway. Additionally, Elections will use the Northside Cherokee Conference Center as an additional location for early voting.

The renovation is expected to be completed in 2022.
