Your guide to the 2020 Publix Atlanta Marathon

In addition to the Olympic marathon trials, the annual Publix Atlanta Marathon will take place on America’s marathon weekend

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a novice with a resolution, this could be your year to take on a marathon.  And if you’re eyeing the Publix Atlanta Marathon or another 26.2-mile jaunt this year, your heart may thank you.

While the Publix Atlanta Marathon is an annual event, this year’s race will have some added excitement. It will happen the day after the Olympic marathon trials in Atlanta — making it America’s marathon weekend.

On Saturday, spectators can watch some of the very best talent in distance running, then tackle the marathon themselves on Sunday.

The Publix Atlanta Marathon also has a half marathon and a 5K as part of the event.

"Held for the second year on a new course that takes you past some of Atlanta's most important monuments, stadiums and neighborhoods, the Publix Atlanta Marathon will show participants from near and far why Atlanta is Running City USA," according to the Track Club's website.

When does the marathon start?

The marathon and half marathon will both begin around 7 a.m. from Centennial Olympic Park.

Where is the route for the Olympic marathon trials?

From downtown, the course takes runners throughout the city: through Sweet Auburn, Little Five Points, Virginia Highlands, Piedmont Park, the Atlanta University Center, Summerhill, Grant Park and back to downtown.

Where is parking for the marathon?

While participants and spectators are encouraged to take MARTA downtown, there are also a number of parking decks surrounding the Centennial Olympic Park area.

When will the event conclude?

The course time limit for the marathon is 6.5 hours (3.5 hours for the half marathon). The marathon course will close at 1:55 p.m.

Is there race day registration available?

No. While you can’t register on race day, participants can sign up at the America’s Marathon Weekend Experience Thursday-Saturday.
