Celebrate everything about summer and the community at the 37th annual Virginia-Highland Summerfest happening June 6-7.

The event includes lots of activities to help usher in the season, including the juried Artist Market, the Makers’ Market for crafters as well as live music.

The Artist Market will feature a variety of masterpieces while the Makers Market will sell items such as hand made soaps and lotions.

There's also the 5K run, which serves as an official qualifier for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race. Runners will get a T-shirt and a free drink and can register here. Plus, there's food and Kidsfest, which features games and children's activities, many of which are free.

Presented by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association (VHCA), the event description said the event, "offers a fun excuse to get outside before the heat of the Atlanta summer descends."

In addition to the two-day festival, special events are hosted ahead of the gathering. Head to the parade at Virginia and North Highland near Murphy’s and bring a photo ID to snag drink tickets. Attendees are also encouraged to bring a $5 donation. Other festival-eve events include a picnic dinner at John Howell Park where lawn games will be played following the meal.

Summerfest serves as one of the largest fundraisers for the Virginia-Highland Civic Association, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and improving the neighborhood. The VHCA, which also counts working on grants, planning, community events and preservation among its tasks, also hosts another fundraiser called Tour of the Homes.
