Emmy Award winner Lisa Lossie’s vision for the terrace level of her Milton home may have been more in line with a set for a TV show or a movie.

“I wanted to make it look like a tasteful vampire’s den,” she said. “I didn’t want anything crazy like crosses and vampires on the walls. I wanted castle-y and tastefully Gothic.”

The terrace level was completed in 2012, five years after she and husband Brian moved from a 1,500-square-foot Buckhead condo with a skyline view of Atlanta.

“When we first moved up here, we barely had a stick of furniture,” she said. “We did it slowly and we did it the way we wanted to.”

Year built and bought: 2007

Architectural style: Traditional

Favorite architectural feature: The arched window in the keeping room, which is a main reason they bought the home, Lisa said. "I absolutely love that window. There's so much light coming through."

Renovations: Fireplace/bookshelves added to master bedroom and pool, outdoor kitchen and living area added in 2009, terrace level finished in 2012. "With the addition of each child, we seemed to do another addition," Lisa said.

Cost of renovations: More than $500,000

Design consultants: Marianne Zavada of Ariana Home Furnishings, Scottsdale Farms (landscaping), Classic Bars (terrace level bar) and Atlas Pools

Interior design style: "Old world meets Gothic meets Tuscan," as described by Lisa.

Favorite interior design elements: A fine reproduction of a 15th-century bench from a chateau, which is underneath a window in the terrace level and fit with Lisa's "Gothic" vision for the space.

Favorite outdoor feature: Pool and outdoor kitchen, which has a tongue-and-groove ceiling, fireplace, refrigerator, sink, ice maker, fireplace, Big Green Egg and built-in 6,000 BTU Fire Magic grill for low country boils and other parties. "We joked it took about nine months to complete that renovation. Madison was a newborn when we started and walking when we finished," she said.

Decor tip: Fill your home with things you love, not pieces that don't have any meaning to you, Lisa said. "We love the history of our family. We love taking those pieces from generations and incorporating them into our home because they have meaning. Yet we find new pieces that we incorporate as well," she said.
