Spicy food lovers rejoice: New Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are spicier than ever

What are Flamin' Hot Cheetos?

Cheetos has several Flamin’ Hot varieties but the newest one may be the spiciest offering yet.

The Daily Meal reported Frito-Lay has introduced Flamin' Hot Pepper Puffs, a hotter version of their spicy cheese puffs.

“Flamin’ Hot Pepper Puffs are shaped like a pepper, and marketing materials promise that your taste buds will be tingling. It’s unclear just how hot these Cheetos are, though. They could carry jalapeño-level heat or even ghost pepper,” the food and drink topic website reported.

The hot pepper Cheetos variety is only available at Walmart and Circle K for a limited time. In the Atlanta area, they can also be found at Chevron and select CVS stores, Texaco and BP gas stations. The snack is available in 2.375-ounce bags for $1.89 or 7-ounce bags for $3.99.

This is not Frito-Lay's first foray into making a spicier edition of their snacks. The company, which introduced Flamin' Hot Cheetos nationwide in 1992, also has Cheetos Crunchy XXtra Flamin' Hot, which makes it "next level." There are also a cheesy jalapeño version of Cheetos and Flamin' Hot popcornasteroid, limón and puffs varieties.

According to The Hustle, Flamin' Hot Cheetos were introduced by a man who worked as a janitor at Frito-Lay. Richard Montañez realized there was no product from the chip manufacturer that catered to Latino tastes. He was inspired to create the snack after stopping by a vendor to have some Mexican street corn, or elote, which is dusted with chili powder among other toppings.
