Frigid temperatures led to flurries and then snowfall in North Georgia and metro Atlanta Saturday.

Many in the northern counties of the state got the heaviest snow and shared photos on Twitter of what exceeded 3 inches of snow in some areas. Channel 2 Action News reported portions of North Georgia got as much as six inches of snow.

But not everyone saw snow when they woke up today. Residents in parts of Midtown tweeted about everyone else enjoying the coverage while rain poured outside their windows.

As snow continued to fall and Georgia Department of Transportation officials encouraged residents to stay home and off icy roads, a winter weather advisory was issued. The National Weather Service has listed more than 24 counties, including Cobb, DeKalb and Paulding, in the advisory.

Additionally, a winter storm warning is in effect for counties including Lumpkin, Cherokee and Hall until 7 p.m., according to Channel 2.
