The ad began, “I need someone to come shoot my dog.” It went on to lament, "no one here has the heart to do it.”
The owner finished off by offering to help, adding, “we will provide the gun."
Facebook exploded after the post, and 3-year-old Cinnamon isn’t dead, but she does have a new place to stay.
Animal control officers were alerted to the message quickly picked up the Saint Bernard/English bulldog mix. KHOU reports the animal's owner told them the large dog had become too much to care for and wouldn't stay out of the trash.
Animal shelter coordinator Nanette Moss knows things could have gone differently. "When she walked through my door it just broke my heart," she explained. "She's a sweet dog and how can somebody shoot a sweet dog?"
Cinnamon is living with a foster family until workers find the perfect family. That makes Moss smile. "I work with these dogs every day,” she gushed. “They are my life.”
Police say there will be no charges against the woman who put the post on Facebook because she turned the animal over to authorities.
