Hit hard by the effects of recent flooding, the Austin Animal Center offered pet adoptions for free and asked for volunteers to foster displaced animals.
The shelter had to evacaute about 60 dogs and close its operations this week because of flooding, according to a city news release.
Austin and other cities have been using social media to match lost animals with their owners.

"For more information, go to www.austinanimalcenter.org, call 3-1-1, or visit www.facebook.com/austinanimalservices for daily animal updates," according to the release.
