Angel, a Bichon Frise, just celebrated her 15th birthday in style. In fact, her birthday party topped that of many 12-year-old children.

In a party that cost more than $1,000, Mike Chesworth made sure his pooch's day was one to remember by inviting at least 60 people, the guests' dogs, a ferret and a mariachi band. There was even a red carpet, a piñata full of biscuits, a bouncy house and a special canine birthday cake.

Years ago, Chesworth, 37, promised Angel that he would throw her a traditional Latin American quinceañera, a coming-of-age celebration.
Usually, Latin American girls celebrate their 15th birthdays with a large quinceañera celebration that marks the transition from childhood to adulthood.

"It was a really special day, and Angel loved it," Chesworth said. "Angel loves being spoiled, and she really played up to that for her party."

The party was held Dec. 6, and Chesworth and Angel made a dramatic entrance.

"I'm known for doing things like this all the time," Chesworth said. "I 'campaigned' a whole month for my presidential 35th birthday party. Once you turn 35 you can run for the presidency, and I thought that would be a cool theme."

Chesworth, who owns Chesworth Films, said the mariachi band that performed also performed for a previous pope.

"I never realized how much you could love a dog until I got Angel," he said. "She's absolutely adorable, and anyone who meets her just loves her."
